  14. the availability of Magellan v3.0, a state of the art object oriented
  15. supervisory control and data acquisition system running under UNIX.
  16. It is being offered on 486 and pentium PCs, HP 9000 series 700.

  18. Magellan is designed to control high precision material processes
  19. involving temperature, pressure, digital ... controls, safety
  20. interlock and in situ monitoring. Applications range from
  21. semi-conductor, thin films to ceramic and polymer production or
  22. research, involving thermal, liquid, plasma... processes.
  23.  
  24. Magellan is 100 % production oriented : its unique Process Calibration
  25. Database enables day to day reproducibility and customer driven
  26. flexibility. Several working points of the reactor can be maintained
  27. in the database minimizing switching time between production batches.
  28. Recipes are adjusted automatically with the database.

  30. The user configures Magellan by instanciating individual objects
  31. corresponding to the different controllers on the reactor : PID
  32. temperature, pressure, mass flow controllers, pyrometer, pressure
  33. gauge, digital, step motors controllers ... Magellan reconfigures
  34. itself according to the object list. The Process Calibration Database
  35. is created and each source of material can be calibrated.

  37. Complex recipes are written by describing the different steps of
  38. the recipe with time or conditionnal sequencing. The Recipe Editor
  39. enables nested loops for multilayer material deposition, and
  40. non-linear set point curves that can generate any composition
  41. gradients to mach interfaces for instance. Materials layer structure
  42. can be defined in terms of thickness and composition. Magellan
  43. calculates subsequently the corresponding durations and set points
  44. according to the database.

  46. Magellan Man-Machine Interface can be defined for three process
  47. user's levels : Developper, Engineer, Operator. Operators can only
  48. execute recipes. Process Engineers can modify maintain the Process
  49. Calibration Database up to date and change parameters in the recipes,
  50. follow SPC data and write reports mixing graphs tabular data,
  51. measures .... Process Developpers have access to system configuration,
  52. can write recipes, and test non-linear set point curves.

  54. Magellan has a built-in object oriented real-time kernel : DLCs
  55. can be combined from several vendors eliminating the need for a
  56. common sequencing controller. Communication drivers are available
  57. for a large variety of controllers.

  59. Magellan v3.0g is a reduced version that enables to built grafcet
  60. controllers Man-Machine Interfaces in minutes.

  62. Magellan v3.0p can control up to 4 reactors simultaneously running
  63. individual recipes. Batch capabilities are supported for integrated
  64. production system.

  69. to insure constant quality by correcting long term deviations,
  70. Magellan Application Kit (MAK) enables you to implement expert
  71. behavior in hours or days, directly traducing process engineer
  72. knowledge into complex regulation loop.
